Creating a new Document

In order to create a new analysis click on the -button that you will find in the top right corner of the My Documents page (in case you cannot see the button you have not been granted necessary rights. Please contact your user administrator).

The My Documents page can be reached from almost any point of the SAP Process Mining by Celonis system by clicking the -button that can be found in the top left corner of the user interface.

After clicking the button a pop-up will appear as in Figure 3.5.

Figure 3.5: Create Document

  • Title: Give a meaningful title to your analysis so you can easily identify its contents.
  • Document folder: Specify a folder you want your analysis to be saved to thus giving structure to your document list.
  • New Folder: If you want to create a new folder in the structure of the document list, type the desired folder name in this field. Your analysis will automatically be saved in this folder.
  • Data Source: The most important setting when creating an analysis. Here you can select any data cube that has been created by a data administrator and that you have been granted read access to. Please note that the data source should never be changed after creating an analysis as it will most likely damage it!
  • Automatic Reset: The automatic reset should only be activated while still working regularly on the analysis. If active, the document will always be reset (to the last save) and the cache will be reloaded while opening the document.
  • Template: This option can be very helpful when not wanting to create an analysis completely from the scratch. Simply use one of the templates that have been defined previously in the My Templates section. Please note that any document created from a template cannot be changed, only the template itself can be modified (effecting every document based on this template). Therefore this option should only be used when creating many analyses with the same layout/components but different data cubes (with identical data structure, i.e. same table and column names).
  • Upload Template: This option is only available after the document has already been created. Here you can upload another analysis that has been exported previously. Thus, an existing analysis can be copied or cloned.

After filling in all the required options, click on Apply in order to save the document. It will now appear on your home screen and can be accesed by clicking on it.

Choose Layout Templates

When opening a newly created analysis you will see a message telling you that the document is empty. You can either Take the Tutorial showing you how to create your first tab and component or click on the New Tab button in the upper left corner of the screen (see Figure 3.6).

Figure 3.6: Choose Layout Template

When doing so you will be prompted with the four choices (see Figure 3.6):

  • Free Position Layout: This is probably the most commonly used layout. It will create an empty tab allowing you to freely position analysis components anywhere on the screen.
  • Explorative Layout: This layout provides a big slot for one single component and a smaller slot for small components that can be used for dynamic filtering. The slot for the analysis components on the right side is indefinitely long. Thus, the big component will always stay in the same position but you can scroll up and down, browsing through the defined (filter) components.
  • Sample Slotted Layout: Just like the Explorative Layout, the Sample Slotted Layout offers space for one big and a few small components. In contrast to the Explorative Layout however, it is not possible to position an indefinite number of small components and components can only be inserted into the spaces provided.
  • Single Component Layout: The Single Component Layout offers space for only one, large analysis component. It can be best used for analyses where only a Process Explorer component will be used.

Inserting new Components into Layouts

In case you are choosing one of the predefined layouts, the new tab will contain component slots. By simply click on one of the slots and choose your desired analysis component from the range of options shown in Figure 3.7.

When using the Free Position Layout the newly created tab will not contain predefined slots but be empty. To add a new component simply click and drag anywhere on the canvas to define a slot. Of course, size and position of the single components can be adapted afterwards so you do not have to worry about immediately choosing the best position.

After you release your mouse button, a window showing the range of options for analysis components will appear (see Figure 3.7 After choosing one of the analysis components, you will be forwarded to its respective configuration screen.
